Abstract, Science Fiction & Surreal Digital Illustration
I am by day a neuroscientist, but at night an amateur science fiction and abstract illustrator. My work has been shown at OmegaCon, DragonCon08, Constellation and Imagicon, and has been used as cover art on several zines by Sam's Dot Publishing. I have the cover, some inside art, and a short story in the Dec09/Jan10 issue of Orion's Child SF magazine (www.galadarn.com/OrionsChild.html. ). Early Earth I on page 5 won "best color piece" at Mobicon 2009. Moon Streakers won best digital art at LibertyCon09. A piece called "Evolution" won best color at Mobicon2010. My work is primarily created with digital 3D software such as Bryce and Apophysis.
I can be contacted at [email protected] or [email protected]. Some pieces that are not in limited series are available from http://www.Zazzle.com/amthorfr, DeviantArt.com, RedBubble.com and ImageKind.com (search for 'amthorfr'). I recently published "Neuroscience for Dummies" (Wiley, available on Amazon) for which I also did all the illustrations, as well as Neurobiology for Dummies. I also write science fiction, often motivated by the art, such as "The Phoenix War". Several examples of very short stories are at the end of this site. My goal is to publish a series of illustrated novels. All Art and Text Copyright F. R. Amthor.
My art can next be seen at DeepSouthCon, Oct 21-23, 2022 in Huntsville, AL.
